At Sunshine Starts in Yorktown Heights, we want to encourage children to learn at their own pace using the methods that work best for their needs. We proudly use the Emergent curriculum, which is developed through careful observation and documentation of your child’s behavior.

Teachers utilize the Emergent curriculum for any age group. Through this curriculum our teachers will:

  • Discover what learning and teaching methods work best
  • Plan lessons around the thoughts, interests, and ideas of your child

It’s no secret that parents want the very best for their children, and at Sunshine Starts in Westchester, we strive to give your child an education that puts their needs first. Inspired by Reggio Emilia, the Emergent curriculum is designed to be responsive to a child’s needs in order to help them develop fully and completely.

At Sunshine Starts, we proudly utilize the Emergent curriculum to encourage teachers to observe and document the behaviors, interests, and ideas of each child to better tailor their education to their needs. After hours of high-level observation, our child care providers will be able to customize a curriculum that will ensure your child is more than just a number in a classroom. In addition to utilizing the Emergent curriculum, we also use the Vine Assessment™ to ensure that our students are meeting all national and state standards.

Utilizing the Continuity of Care Model

In an effort to ensure that your child receives the best possible education, we also follow the continuity care model. This model has been shown to help children thrive in their environment, and at Sunshine Starts, that is just what we aim to do. From September to June, students will stay with the same teacher in the same room to help them feel more comfortable with their environment and improve all aspects of their developement.
